GUIDELINES TO COMPETE IN THE SHOWCASE

  • Look, 25 years and under in age 
  • Submit performance on CD/DVD to be showcased
  • Performance and lyrics must be clean
  • Registration fee of $50 per person (includes seat at seminar), $25 PP for groups of three or more/$100 maximum (students receive 50% off)

Judges for the Sunday June 27, 2010 "Uplifting Minds II" entertainment conference's national talent competition showcase held at the Los Angeles Convention Center West Hall Theater (1201 South Figueroa Street, LA, CA 90015 - Cherry Street Entrance) from 1 pm - 7 pm consisted of legendary radio personality Lee Bailey (RadioScope); public relations specialst and author Phyllis Caddell-M (PC Public Relations); award winning guitarist Vernon Neilly (Boosweet Records); film director/producer Ben Foster; actress/singer Ashley Argota (Lulu on Nickelodeon's True Jackson, VP), and comedian/actress Annie McKnight (The Soloist, "Martin Lawrence's 1st Amendment"). The competition will be hosted by KDAY 93.5 DJ Surreal and talent compete in three categories, vocals, songwriting and dance. Los Angeles' Certified PYT won Best Dance; Long Beach's Young Reckless Riders won Best Vocalist and L.A.'s The Circle won Best Songwriters.  Admission to the talent showcase was FREE!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

ATTENDANCE: Attendance to the "UPLIFTING MINDS II" showcase is FREE and open to the public. Held in Baltimore at the Sojourner-Douglas College Auditorium and in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Convention Center-West Hall Theater, right after the seminars. Competitors, as a result of competing, has gone on to gain great opportunities such as writing/producting a song for Dru Hill, "I Should Be," which went platinum (The Featherstones); performed on Broadway; performed as opening acts for LL Cool J, Trey Songz, India. Arie and Faith Evans; appeared on major television networks, and have had their songs played on FM and Internet radio stations (just to name a few successes).

WINNERS RECEIVE: Aside from the ULMII Best Vocalist, Songwriter and Dance Award winners, in each category, receive a list of prizes that vary each year. In 2009 prizes consist of a free music track from 3time ULMII winner VIP (DUST DEM AFF, www.DustDemAff.com);  30 days radio airtime from Spirit Radio (www.SpiritCo1.com); a free photo session by award winning photograpger Gar Roberts;  legal advice from Burbank, California entertainment attorney Richard Jefferson (www.fjlawcorp.com); vocal coaching from voice coach Nadiyah Kareem (Superstar Entertainment), and 2 weeks booking services from Gray Mount Entertainment (www.graymountent.com), and 1/2 off Internet marketing and promotions from label owner Vernon Neilly (www.Boosweet.com).
